On July 5, the transition and auxiliary piers on the west side of the Huangmao Sea Channel Bridge were cast in place, marking the completion of all 23 full-width TY-style piers of the project.

It is the first application of full-width TY-style piers in sectional bridges of China's expressways.

The Huangmao Sea Channel Bridge is part of the Huangmao Sea Channel project and is the world's largest three-tower cable-stayed bridge in terms of span.

With a maximum height of 60 meters, and 37.4-meter-long beams on the top, the TY-style piers are used throughout the project’s bridge section, including both the Huangmao Sea Channel Bridge and the Gaolan Port Bridge.

According to the head engineer of the project, the full-width TY-style piers are expected to significantly improve the ability of bridge piers to prevent ship collisions, while echoing the main design of the bridge's two main towers, which have been dubbed "Canton Tower on the sea."

The construction workers have managed to improve efficiency despite the difficulties caused by the 45-degree angle of the pier legs and the complex structure of the steel bars, shortening the time of steel bar binding from 28 days to 7 days.

At present, the Huangmao Sea Channel project has entered a new stage, with the construction of the upper structure of the main bridge. Construction of the steel box girders is expected to be finished by April 2024.

Besides, the Xiangshan Mt Tunnel has now completed 3,150 meters of its excavation, accounting for 97.52 percent of its total length. By this August, it will be completed, and the whole project will open to traffic by the end of 2024.
