Since the first confirmed case of mpox (monkeypox) was reported in Guangdong on June 10, as of 24:00 on June 30, a total of 48 cases of mpox have been reported in the province, according to the Guangdong Provincial Center for Diseases Control and Prevention (Guangdong CDC). Among the cases, 27 were in Guangzhou, 13 in Shenzhen, 7 in Foshan, and 1 in Dongguan.

The cases are all males between 20~45 years old, whose clinical symptoms are mild, the patients mainly have rash, some accompanied by fever, and swollen lymph nodes.

Experts suggest that at present, there’s a low risk of mpox infection to the general population, and the possibility of contracting mpox in daily outings, work and life is low. It is recommended that residents should obtain knowledge of mpox prevention, and exercise protective measures.

The Guangdong CDC reminds that people should go to the hospital at once if they have symptoms such as fever and rashes, with a history of contact with suspected animals, people or mpox cases.
