A 150-meter long scroll, Wu Zetian, which encapsulates 5,865 characters in brushwork, was again causing a sensation in a gallery in Shunde, Foshan. On March 5, Chinese artist Zou Li has kicked off her exhibition, with major inspiration from Wu Zetian, the only female empress in the Chinese history, in the Shunde District Cultural Center (new hall).
This exhibition is presented as a leading part of "Female Art Festival, March" in Shunde, Foshan. The creating process of the long scroll lasts for 20 years. The 0.91-meter wide art piece puts spotlight on 5865 characters in 18 themes, capturing the legendary times of the Tang Dynasty.
According to Zou Li, as a local artist dedicated to female subjects in China, she put her heart and soul into Wu Zetianall these years, as she wanted to reevaluate this historic figure in the public eye. She believes, Wu Zetian was a brave innovator, with a daring spirit that deserves so much more credit than she'd been actually given.
The gallery show will last until April 8th.
