Recently, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology has publicized the list of characteristic industrial clusters for small and medium-sized enterprise(SME) in Guangdong Province in 2023. Four industrial clusters in Foshan have been selected, among which, industrial clusters of hydrogen energy and semiconductor lighting industry in Nanhai District were on the list, accounting for half of the total selected clusters in Foshan.

In fact, Nanhai has been playing a leading role in the hydrogen energy industry in Foshan and even China in recent years. In 2022, Nanhai hydrogen energy industrial cluster has been successfully selected as the 2022 SME characteristic industrial cluster by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, becoming one of the first five SME characteristic industrial clusters in Guangdong and the only one in Foshan. In May this year, China Machinery Industry Federation awarded Nanhai the title of "the Hydrogen Energy Industry Capital in China". With previous honors and awards, the development of the hydrogen energy industry in Nanhai now is highly recognized once again.

Since 2009, Nanhai District has been laying out the hydrogen energy industry, becoming one of the pioneers in the domestic hydrogen energy industry. Nanhai took hydrogen energy industry as an important part of the modern industrial system of "two highs and four news". The Xianhu Hydrogen Valley is planned as the core hydrogen energy industrial park, with a planning area of about 48 square kilometers.

After decades of continuous industrial cultivation, it has gathered more than 150 hydrogen energy enterprises and institutions, covering eight major sectors, including: hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and relevant equipment production; hydrogen refueling station design and construction; fuel cell and system; core materials and components; R&D and manufacturing; product inspection and relevant equipment production; standard formulation; talent cultivation. The total planned investment of the project exceeds 60 billion yuan, forming a relatively complete hydrogen energy industry chain with domestic independent intellectual property rights.

As one of the advantageous industries in Nanhai, the selected semiconductor lighting industry cluster has achieved whole chain coverage in terms of industrial layout. Semiconductor lighting industrial cluster takes Guangdong New Light Source Industrial Base in Shishan as its main carrier. It has further established a complete industrial chain encompassing the upstream epitaxial chip, midstream LED packaging, downstream applications and market circulation by taking the "Guided by government, led by industrial pioneers and enterprises participating" approach. With nearly 70 semiconductor lighting enterprises gathering here, the industrial cluster has become one of the semiconductor lighting industrial clusters with the most complete industrial chain.
