On December 29, the 2022 Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Characteristic Industrial Cluster identified by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology entered its publicity stage, and 100 characteristic industrial clusters were selected, among which five are from Guangdong Province, and the hydrogen energy industrial cluster on the list was the only characteristic industrial cluster from Foshan.

Long crowned as Hydrogen Energy City, Nanhai has been developing Hydrogen Energy Industry for over 10 years. Among the first batch of three fuel cell vehicle demonstration and application city clusters launched by the country, Guangdong Fuel Cell Vehicle Demonstration City Cluster is led by Foshan, and Nanhai District is the main developing area of Foshan hydrogen energy industry.

Early in 2009, Guangshun Group invested 30 million yuan to set up Guangshun New Energy Company in Danzao, to explore the development of core components of fuel cell vehicles. Two years later, Nanhai laid out the Guangdong new energy vehicle industry base in Danzao Town, providing core accessories for the powerplant of fuel cell vehicles.

In 2018, Nanhai District officially launched the 48-square-kilometer Hydrogen Valley in Xianhu, striving to build an internationally renowned pioneer area for independent hydrogen energy, a cluster for high-end hydrogen energy industry, and a social demonstration zone for advanced hydrogen energy.

With Hydrogen Valley in Xianhu as the core, Nanhai has gathered more than 120 hydrogen energy leading enterprises from home and abroad, with a total planned investment exceeding 50 billion yuan. It has formed a whole upstream and downstream industrial chain integrating scientific and technological R&D, core parts and vehicle demonstration and application, training and display, becoming the leading area with the most comprehensive hydrogen industry layout in China.
