Recently, a Foshan artist, Hengjin Cui, presents the panorama view of Gongzheng Road in the late 20th century through VR painting.
Virtual reality – new technique restores the memory
Hengjin Cui wishes to retain the historical view of this city through his artwork, as Gongzhong Road has been modified and rebuilt as a new business centre “Foshan Oriental New world”.
Gongzheng Road was originally named after “Gongzheng Fair”, one of the six traditional fairs in Foshan, that was famous for silk, jewellery and groceries trades. In the late 20th century, it became the “Street for special purchase in Spring Festival”, vastly covered groceries, festival and wedding suppliers, etc.

Old scenes – they have drawn for over ten years
Back in 2012, with his father, Guoxian Cui, an artist as well, they completed the electronic artwork of “Impression of Fuxian Road” in 6 years. In 2019, they released another 3D painting of Foshan’s old town “Foshan Jinhui Set”.
He believed that shared memory is the ultimate bond between people. As he was made up of every past tense of himself, there should be something for people to recall the past. That is his intention behind those artworks.
Currently, they are creating a new artwork “the Sand in Wenchang”, which aims to restore the historical view of Foshan Ferry.
