"Guangdong's manufacturing industry had a total output of over 16 trillion RMB in 2022, ranking first in China for 34 consecutive years," Liu Guangming, Director General of the Guangdong Administration for Market Regulation, said at the press conference on implementing the Outline of Developing Guangdong into a Great Province of Quality held on July 13.

Earlier on June 16, Guangdong released the Outline to improve the quality of its products and services.

According to Liu, Guangdong has more than 700 thousand manufacturing enterprise legal persons and a large number of high-quality enterprises, 8 strategic industrial clusters with more than 1-trillion-RMB output, as well as 17 Fortune Global 500 enterprises.

Liu said that 110 items of standards have been published for mutual recognition in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), which covers 25 different fields including food, Cantonese cuisine, traditional Chinese medicine, transportation, senior care, and logistics, leading the high-quality development of GBA with advanced standards.

"Guangdong plans to build about 50 provincial standard laboratories by 2025 and continue to strive for innovations," he said.

Guangdong’s online retail sales rise to 1.46 trillion RMB from Jan. to May

"Guangdong makes great efforts to develop online shopping and holds the provincial online shopping sales promotion for 3 consecutive years,” said Huang Xin, the Level II Inspector of the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province.

From January to May, Guangdong recorded a total of 4.45 million live broadcasts, ranking first in China, with online retail sales of 1.46 trillion RMB, a year-on-year increase of 17 percent.

Moreover, Guangdong's catering revenue registered 240.305 billion RMB from January to May, up by 31.7 percent year on year.

Guangdong drives tech development through national projects

"Guangdong takes the lead in participating in China's national key research and development programs in its advantageous fields such as high-end electronic information, new materials, and biomedicine," said An Jianguang, the Level II Inspector of the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province.

Among them, Guangdong has implemented 10 batches of projects by the end of 2022. Over 50 percent of them were led by enterprises, whose degree of involvement amounted to over 95 percent, with a number of major technological breakthroughs made.

Guangzhou, Shenzhen & Foshan explore intelligent construction

"In 2022, Guangdong's 14 projects have won the China Construction Engineering Luban Prize, taking the lead in China. Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Foshan have been selected as national intelligent construction pilot cities," said Cai Ying, the Level I Inspector of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

Furthermore, Guangdong has released the first 42 intelligent construction pilot projects, continuously accelerating the industrialization, digitization, and intelligent upgrading of buildings.
